Our read on Amazon Basics
The Amazon Basics Down Alternative Pillow is the only model from the label we score, and it lands mid-table at 6.5, 28th of 53. Value carries it, at 10.0 out of 10, because $9.37 a pillow is little more than half the $25 median for down alternative fill. The complaint profile, at 4.1, is where it loses ground: thickness and flatness each draw two negative mentions for every positive one.

The company
Who is behind Amazon Basics
Amazon Basics is Amazon's private label, covering home goods, office supplies and tech accessories, and its parent company is based in Seattle, Washington. The pillow product pages name the label's owner as manufacturer and do not name the factories. One page, for the medium-density pillow, says the product may originate from China or Malaysia. A private-brand warranty document linked from a pillow page adds that products may be made by a third party not affiliated with the label's owner.
History
Amazon Basics history
The label publishes no history of its pillows. Its launch press release dates it to September 2009, when it started as a line of consumer-electronics basics such as AV cables and blank DVDs. When bedding joined the line is not stated in anything we read.
Today the bed pillows are down alternative fiber pillows sold in two-packs, in soft and medium densities and in Standard, Queen and King sizes. A newer Cool to Touch pillow, sold in Soft and Medium, adds a cooling cover and partly recycled fill. Recalls under the name have hit mattresses, not pillows: the CPSC recalled about 15,300 AmazonBasics memory foam mattresses in November 2021, and about 2,700 Amazon Basics Premium Foam Eurotop mattresses, made by 3Z Brands of Glendale, Arizona, in July 2025. Both recalls were over the federal mattress flammability standard.
Materials
What Amazon Basics pillows are made of
Fill and shell on the standard pillow are both polyester: a 100% polyester down alternative fill inside a 100% polyester microfiber shell with a piped edge. The Cool to Touch version, sold as cooling, uses a cover of 53% polyamide and polyethylene biconstituent fiber and 47% polyethylene, and its fiberfill contains 73% recycled polyester. If fiber fills are new to you, our down alternative guide sets out how they differ from down.
Product pages show OEKO-TEX Standard 100 badges, and the Cool to Touch page claims RCS-certified recycled polyester, but neither gives a certificate number, so neither could be looked up. CertiPUR-US does list Amazon Basics as a brand with pillows among its categories. That listing matters only for foam, and the down alternative pillow contains none.
Policies
Trial, returns and warranty
There is no sleep trial. Returns follow the retailer's standard policy: most items within 30 days of delivery, in original or unused condition. The pillow pages themselves state no warranty. Yet a private-brand limited warranty document linked from one down alternative pillow page covers Amazon Basics products for one year against defects in materials and workmanship, for the original buyer only, with replacement or refund at the company's option. Keep your order record if you think you may need it.

Questions
Amazon Basics questions
Who makes the Amazon Basics pillow you are buying?
The product pages name the label's owner as manufacturer and leave the factory unnamed. One page, for the medium-density pillow, says it may originate from China or Malaysia, and the private-brand warranty notes that products may be made by an unaffiliated third party.
Do Amazon Basics pillows come with a warranty you can claim?
The pillow pages state none, but a private-brand limited warranty linked from one down alternative pillow page covers Amazon Basics products for one year from the original purchase. It applies to the original buyer only, and the remedy is a replacement or a refund.
Is the Amazon Basics pillow right for you as a side sleeper?
The product page names back and stomach sleepers and calls the fill plush. Height is the main complaint, with 67% of thickness mentions negative. If you sleep on your side, compare it with the picks in our side sleeper roundup, which are ranked on the same scale.
Can you wash an Amazon Basics pillow?
Yes. The down alternative pillow is machine washable, and the page says not to bleach it. Its Cool to Touch sibling is machine washable too and arrives compressed, so the page suggests 5 to 10 minutes on the dryer's air cycle to re-fluff it.
