Our read on Coop Sleep Goods
Coop's Original Adjustable Pillow is one of the strongest pillows we score: 7.6, rank 6 of 53, on 64,006 ratings at 4.5 stars. Price is what holds it back. At $89 against a $27.49 median for shredded foam, value scores 3, and the Eden scores the same 3 at $109. The down alternative Essence is the weak link of the range at 5.5, rank 47.

The company
Who is behind Coop Sleep Goods
Coop was founded in 2013 in Los Angeles by siblings Jin and Kevin Chon, and its contact page still describes the team as based in Southern California. In August 2021 Topspin Consumer Partners, a private equity firm focused on consumer brands, made a majority recapitalization investment, and the founders stayed on to run the business.
Two names appear on the paperwork. The consumer brand trades as Coop Sleep Goods, while the Terms of Service name Coop Home Goods, LLC as the operator of coopsleepgoods.com. If you file a warranty claim or a return, either name refers to the same company.
History
Coop Sleep Goods history
Trade press links the start of the company to Kevin Chon's sleep problems from chronic neck and back pain. Coop's own About page tells a similar origin story without names or dates.
The 2021 Topspin deal, on which Capstone Partners advised Coop, is the main ownership change on record. At some point the consumer name moved from Coop Home Goods to Coop Sleep Goods; the date of that change is not published. No recalls, lawsuits or regulator actions about Coop pillows turned up.
The brand site now calls its pillows "Consumer Reports Recommended". That is Coop's claim, and we did not check it against Consumer Reports itself.
Materials
What Coop Sleep Goods pillows are made of
Coop sells its bed pillows as adjustable: an inner liner and an outer cover zip together, and you add or remove fill until the height suits you. The Original's fill is listed as 76% visco polyurethane foam and 24% polyester gel fiber, cross-cut and mixed, and the box includes an extra half pound of it. Coop names two materials of its own: Lulltra, a cover fabric of 60% polyester and 40% bamboo-derived viscose rayon, and Oomph Cool+, the fill in its Cool+ pillow.
Product pages claim CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold. The CertiPUR-US directory lists Coop Home Goods, Coop Sleep Goods and Comphy by Coop, which confirms the company takes part, though the directory does not certify each pillow by name. GREENGUARD Gold could not be checked, because UL's lookup was unreachable on the day we tried. Our shredded memory foam guide explains what a foam certificate does and does not cover.
Policies
Trial, returns and warranty
Buy direct and a Coop pillow has a 100-day return window, with a prepaid label and a refund within 2 business days of receipt. Pillows bought through third-party online listings are excluded: the returns page tells those buyers to contact Coop customer service, and Target and Walmart purchases go back through those stores. The warranty runs 5 years on pillows and covers manufacturer defects, not normal wear. You need an order number to file a claim, and the warranty page does not say whether pillows bought elsewhere are covered.

Questions
Coop Sleep Goods questions
Is a Coop pillow worth it if you sleep hot?
Only with modest hopes. The Eden is sold as cooling, yet its 837 cooling mentions split 49% positive to 51% negative, and the Original makes no cooling claim at all. Coop's Cool+ model adds a phase-change gel foam layer on one side, but we do not score it.
Will a Coop pillow smell when you unpack it?
Plenty of buyers report it. Of 3,790 Original buyers who mention odor, 71% are negative, which makes smell the most negative large topic in that pool. Comfort still runs 90% positive across 21,034 mentions, so the smell does not sink the pool.
Can you return a Coop pillow you bought from another store?
The 100-day window covers direct orders only. Coop sends buyers from third-party online listings to its customer service, and Target and Walmart purchases go back through those stores. Our Coop vs Tempur-Pedic comparison sets these terms against a brand with no pillow trial at all.
Does a Coop pillow help if you wake up with neck pain?
Buyers lean positive: 80% of 3,951 Original buyers who mention neck pain are favorable, and 76% of 475 on the Eden. Those are reports, not a promise, and ongoing pain is a reason to see a clinician. The Coop vs Nuzzle comparison weighs the Original against another adjustable pillow.
