Memory foam comes two ways. Shredded foam is loose pieces in a zipped case, so you set the height. A solid block holds the height the maker cut it to. Eight of these ten adjust, seven with shredded foam and Coop's Eden with a foam and microfiber blend, while the SUPA MODERN thin pillow and the Weekender are fixed blocks.
The memory foam pillows with at least 300 buyer ratings are sorted by our score, at most two per brand. Smell and foam certification are the two questions foam raises that other fills do not, and our memory foam page covers both in depth.

1. SUPA MODERN Cooling Shredded Memory Foam Pillow
The top memory foam pillow by score, with a fill of cross-cut memory foam and microfiber that you can add to or take out.
The product page claims CertiPUR-US, but the CertiPUR-US directory has no SUPA MODERN entry, so treat the foam claim as unconfirmed. Only the cover washes, SUPA MODERN says, not the foam.
2. QUTOOL Bamboo Rayon Adjustable Pillow
Medium shredded foam from a maker the CertiPUR-US directory lists by name.
Smell shows up here: 58% of the 24 buyers who mention odor are negative, so give it a day of air.
3. QUTOOL Firm Shredded Memory Foam Pillow
Extra firm shredded foam from the same QUTOOL entry in the CertiPUR-US directory, filled with what QUTOOL calls gel memory foam and soft microfiber.
Firmness is the point and the risk: 70% of the buyers who mention it are positive.
4. Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable Pillow
Coop's fill is a blend, 76% memory foam and 24% polyester gel fiber by the maker's figures, and the CertiPUR-US directory lists Coop at company level.
Odor is the foam complaint at its largest here: 3,790 buyers raise it, 71% of them negatively.
5. Coop Sleep Goods Eden Pillow
Gel-infused memory foam and microfiber that Coop says you can add or remove, under the same company-level CertiPUR-US entry as the Original.
It costs $109, far above the $33.99 median for its fill.
6. Puredown Shredded Memory Foam Pillow
Soft shredded foam at $13.50 a pillow, though Puredown publishes no certificate number for its OEKO-TEX claim.
It has the most negative odor share on the list, 77%, though from a small count.
7. Beckham Hotel Collection Adjustable Memory Foam Pillow
Shredded foam in a zipped inner case under a cotton cover that zips off, firm by the maker's word.
The CertiPUR-US directory has no Beckham entry, and the product page names no certification, which holds materials and proof to 4.0.
8. Utopia Bedding Shredded Memory Foam Pillow
A single queen at $20.89, plush by the maker's word, with a fill Utopia Bedding gives as 85% shredded memory foam and 15% polyester fiber.
The product page claims CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX, but the CertiPUR-US directory has no Utopia entry, and the label says spot clean only.
9. SUPA MODERN Thin Stomach Sleeper Pillow
Gel memory foam sold in three heights, 1.75, 2.75 and 3.25 inches, for anyone who already knows a standard pillow is too tall.
Its fixed loft holds fit range to 3.0, and the cover zips off for the wash.
10. WEEKENDER Ventilated Gel Memory Foam Pillow
A ventilated gel memory foam block from a maker the CertiPUR-US directory lists with pillows among its categories, at $29.99 for a standard single.
Firmness is the problem: 47% of the 2,051 buyers who mention it are negative.
Shredded or solid
Choose between control and a set shape
Shredded foam lets you set the height and squash the pillow into shape. A fixed block gives one height and an even surface, so it only works if that height suits your frame and your mattress. Our shredded memory foam page compares the two in detail.
Price follows the split. The adjustable picks run from $13.50 to $109 a pillow, the two fixed blocks cost $29.99 and $33.99, and the median for solid memory foam is $33.99. If you are unsure of your height, the cheapest adjustable pick costs less than either fixed block.
Firmness is where foam buyers split most. On the Weekender, 47% of firmness mentions are negative, and on the SUPA MODERN 33%. A shredded pillow lets you soften it by taking fill out, while a fixed block offers no such fix, so if you are between feels, the adjustable side of the list is the safer bet.
Smell and certification
New-foam smell and what CertiPUR-US covers
On the Coop, 71% of the buyers who mention odor are negative, and the Puredown and QUTOOL Bamboo draw negative odor shares too. The EPA puts furnishings on its list of indoor sources of volatile organic compounds and recommends ventilation, adding that little is known about effects at the levels usually found in homes. Airing a new pillow for a day or two is the practical answer.
CertiPUR-US certifies the polyurethane foam inside a pillow, not the pillow or the brand, for low VOC emissions, under 0.5 parts per million, and the absence of formaldehyde, heavy metals and listed flame retardants. QUTOOL, Coop and Weekender appear in its directory. SUPA MODERN, Utopia Bedding and Beckham do not. You can see what each badge on a foam pillow proves on our certifications page.
Care
Wash the cover, air the core
Eight of these ten wash the cover only, Utopia Bedding's is spot clean only and Puredown gives no instructions. Not one is sold as washable whole, and SUPA MODERN states plainly that the foam inside its cooling pillow is not washable. Read the label before the core goes near water, and see our washing guide for foam. If smell or dust is the reason you wash often, compare the covers, since the foam core stays out of the water either way.
Questions
Questions buyers ask
Is shredded or solid memory foam better for you?
Shredded if you need to set your own height, a fixed block if you already know what height suits you and want it to stay put. The fixed blocks here cost $29.99 and $33.99 a pillow, and adjustable foam starts at $13.50.
Why does your new memory foam pillow smell?
New foam can give off volatile organic compounds, and the EPA lists furnishings among indoor sources while noting little is known about effects at household levels. Buyers raise it often: 3,790 mention odor on the Coop alone. Air the pillow before you sleep on it.
What does CertiPUR-US tell you about a foam pillow?
That the polyurethane foam inside was certified for low VOC emissions and the absence of formaldehyde, heavy metals and listed flame retardants. It does not certify the pillow, the cover or the brand, and it does not cover latex. Look the maker up in the CertiPUR-US directory before you trust a badge.
Can you put a memory foam pillow in your washer?
Put the cover in, not the foam. Eight picks have zip-off covers, and SUPA MODERN says the foam in the SUPA MODERN Cooling Shredded Memory Foam Pillow is not washable. Utopia Bedding's pillow is spot clean only, and Puredown gives no rule at all.
