The company
Who is behind Purple
Purple Innovation, Inc., traded on Nasdaq as PRPL, is the public parent, and its operating company, Purple Innovation, LLC, holds the trademarks. Headquarters are on North Chapel Ridge Road in Lehi, Utah. The company leases a manufacturing site of about 844,000 square feet in McDonough, Georgia, and its FY2025 annual report mentions closing two Utah manufacturing facilities in the second quarter of 2025.
That same report says the board formed a special committee to weigh indications of interest and other strategic alternatives, with no assurance of a deal. We found no completed sale as of October 2026.
History
Purple history
Brothers Tony and Terry Pearce left aerospace and engineering-consulting careers in the late 1980s to develop advanced materials. Their elastic polymer, later named Hyper-Elastic Polymer, came out of wheelchair-cushion work and was licensed for years to other companies' products, from backpack straps to Dr. Scholl's gel. In 2010 the brothers switched from licensing to making their own products.
Purple formed as a company in Alpine, Utah, in January 2016, and a viral marketing video drove its early demand. A merger with a SPAC took it public on February 2, 2018, and in 2022 it bought Advanced Comfort Technologies (Intellibed), gaining exclusive rights to Hyper-Elastic Polymer technology.
Purple has also been a plaintiff. In Purple Innovation v. Honest Reviews, filed in Utah federal court, it sued a review site and rival GhostBed over claims that the powder in its mattresses was unsafe. The court granted Purple a preliminary injunction in 2017, and the case closed in 2020. It concerned mattresses, not pillows.
Materials
What Purple pillows are made of
GelFlex Grid, a honeycomb of Hyper-Elastic Polymer, is the material most Purple pillows are built around. MicroGrid and MicroFlex Moon Foam are the other proprietary names. On the Harmony, the grid wraps a ventilated Talalay latex core under a nylon and spandex knit, in heights of 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 inches. The Purple Pillow is a 3-inch slab of firmer grid weighing 11.7 lb, with 1-inch and 1/2-inch boosters for three heights, and the Freeform fills a liner with pieces of Moon Foam you can remove. Both the Cloud and the TwinCloud use down alternative fiber.
The Harmony page says Talalay processing removes most latex proteins. That is the brand's claim, not a test result we could see. None of the pillow pages names a certification. The CertiPUR-US directory does list Purple at company level, but no page ties that to a specific pillow. Our latex and gel grid guide explains how these materials differ from foam.
Policies
Trial, returns and warranty
Buy direct and you get 30 nights from delivery. The pillow must come back clean and undamaged, for a full refund and no exchanges, and Purple suggests 14 to 21 days to adjust. Purple's FY2025 annual report gives pillows a 100-night trial, so the company contradicts its own returns page, which says 30. The warranty is 1 year, for the original purchaser only, covers pillows sold new in the USA by Purple or an authorized reseller, and is void if the pillow is used without a cover. Pillows bought from other retailers follow those retailers' return rules.

Purple suits
- You want latex and grid rather than fiber or memory foam, and you know your height: the Harmony comes in 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 inches.
- You want to change height without opening a bag of fill; the Purple Pillow uses two boosters.
- You can spend $149 to $211 on one pillow and want 30 nights to decide.
Look elsewhere if
- You want a fiber pillow: the Cloud and TwinCloud rank 53rd and 51st of 53.
- You need a pillow you can lift and move easily; the Purple Pillow weighs 11.7 lb.
- You want more than a year of warranty cover.
Questions
Purple questions
Is a Purple pillow worth the price for you?
Buyers are split on it. Value for money runs 60% negative on the $194 Harmony and 63% negative on the $211 Purple Pillow. If you are after a soft fiber pillow, note that the Cloud and TwinCloud score lowest of the seven.
Can you return a Purple pillow you bought from another store?
Purple's 30-night returns cover direct purchases only, so a store purchase follows that store's rules. The 1-year warranty still applies if the seller is a Purple-authorized reseller in the USA.
Will a Purple pillow feel cool if you sleep hot?
The grid models are sold as cooling, and buyers mostly agree: 88% of 76 cooling mentions on the Purple Pillow are positive and 71% of 294 on the Harmony. Our Casper vs Purple comparison sets the Harmony against a fiber pillow.
How do you wash a Purple Harmony pillow?
Machine wash the cover cold, separately, and lay it flat or air dry it. The latex core is spot clean only and should never go in a machine. Our Purple vs Tempur-Pedic comparison covers how its care differs from solid foam.
