Our read on Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic's five pillows score between 4.7 and 6.5 with us, and none of the four ranked models reaches the top half of 53. The TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow leads the ranked ones at 6.5 (rank 29), while the TEMPUR-Neck Pillow sits at 4.7, rank 52. Complaint profiles between 2 and 4.2 are where the brand loses most ground. Price is not the problem: four of the five models score 8.4 to 8.7 for value against a $74.50 median for TEMPUR foam.

The company

Who is behind Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic is a brand of Tempur Sealy, which belongs to Somnigroup International Inc., listed in New York as SGI and named Tempur Sealy International until 2025. Somnigroup is based in Lexington, Kentucky, calls itself the world's largest bedding company, and also owns Mattress Firm, the UK retailer Dreams and, since 2026, Leggett & Platt.

The pillows page states that the pillows are assembled in the USA. Tempur-Pedic also sells retailer-exclusive pillows under other collection names, which we do not score, so check the model name before you compare prices.

History

Tempur-Pedic history

The material came first. In 1991 entrepreneur Bobby Trussell came across a Swedish foam on a business trip. A year later he and partner Bob Hoeller formed Tempur-Pedic in Kentucky to distribute the Swedish products in North America, and the first Tempur-Pedic mattress sold in 1992. The company entered the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 1998 and opened its first US plant in Duffield, Virginia, in 2001.

In 2013 Tempur-Pedic bought Sealy and became Tempur Sealy International. The FTC sued to block its purchase of Mattress Firm. A court denied the preliminary injunction on January 31, 2025, the deal closed on February 5, and the company renamed itself Somnigroup that year. In 2026 it acquired Leggett & Platt.

One lawsuit touched pillows directly. Todd et al. v. Tempur Sealy, a 2013 class action in the Northern District of California, alleged that mattresses and pillows marketed as free of harmful VOCs gave off VOC odors. Class certification was denied, and the case was stayed in October 2016; we found no final outcome.

Materials

What Tempur-Pedic pillows are made of

Every pillow here is built on TEMPUR-Material, the brand's name for its viscoelastic memory foam. The Cloud is one formed piece sold as extra-soft, the Neck is a contoured shape in small, medium and large profiles, and the Symphony is dual-sided. On the Dual Cooling, a gel layer sits on both sides under a quilted cotton cover. Other proprietary names include TEMPUR-Blend, the loose fill in the adjustable Cloud, and Surface Guard Technology, a cover treatment.

Tempur-Pedic says the foams in its pillows are 100% CertiPUR-US certified, and the CertiPUR-US directory confirms the company as a participant. No OEKO-TEX or GREENGUARD claim appeared on the pillow pages. Our memory foam guide explains what that certificate checks.

Policies

Trial, returns and warranty

There is no trial on pillows. Buy one direct and it can come back only if it arrives damaged or proves defective. The product pages add that pillows, as personal items, may not be returned, while mattresses get 90 nights. From another retailer, that retailer's return policy applies. The warranty is a 5-year limited warranty, covering repair or replacement.

Tempur-Pedic suits

  • You know the height you need and want dense foam that holds one shape: the Neck comes in three profiles.
  • You sleep on your back or stomach and like a low, soft pillow: the maker names those positions for the Cloud.
  • You value a 5-year warranty more than a trial period.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want to try a pillow and send it back if it feels wrong.
  • You plan to wash the whole pillow: TEMPUR foam must never be cleaned with liquid.
  • You are choosing a contour pillow on firmness alone: 69% of Neck buyers who mention firmness are negative.

Questions

Tempur-Pedic questions

Can you return a Tempur-Pedic pillow if it feels wrong?

Not if you bought it direct, unless it arrived damaged or is defective. If you bought it from a store, that store's return policy applies, so check it before you open the box.

Is the Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow right for you if you have neck pain?

Buyer reports are mixed: 59% of 405 who mention pain relief are positive, while firmness runs 69% negative and size 82% negative. A contour pillow in the wrong profile is a common complaint. Ongoing pain is a reason to see a clinician before you pick a shape.

Will a Tempur-Pedic cooling pillow keep you cooler?

Both cooling models are sold as cooling. The Dual Cooling's 356 cooling mentions run 65% positive, while the newer Cloud + Cooling has only 9, of which 56% are negative. Our Coop vs Tempur-Pedic comparison sets the Cloud against an adjustable foam pillow.

How do you clean a Tempur-Pedic pillow?

Take off the cover, wash it in cold water with gentle detergent and air dry it if you can. Never clean the TEMPUR-Material foam with liquid; the brand says to roll and unroll it gently to air it out instead.
