Our verdict
The Essence ranks 47th of 53 at 5.5 out of 10. Its fit range of 8 comes from a zipper you can use to add or remove fill, and every one of the 38 buyers who mention adjustability is positive. Satisfaction (5.1), value (7.5) and matching 4s on proof and care cost it the rest.

Your experience seems to depend on the zipper. Adjustability earns 38 mentions with no negatives at all, yet filling splits 44 to 56 across 72 mentions and flatness runs 78% negative across 36. Value for money is close to even, 55 to 45 over 80 mentions. Cooling effect, which the Essence Cooling version is sold on, splits the same way across 44 mentions.
Fill and feel
Polyester puffs and fiber you can top up
Coop fills the Essence with polyester puffs and down alternative fiber, calls it soft, and adds a 2-inch gusset for edge support. A bag of extra fill, which Coop calls Phluff, ships with the pair. If the pillow feels thin, adding fill is the intended fix.
Materials score 4. The CertiPUR-US directory lists Coop at company level rather than per pillow, the GREENGUARD Gold claim could not be checked, and the OEKO-TEX mention in the bullets carries no number.
Size and loft
A 27 by 17 inch queen in Classic or Crescent shape
Coop makes the queen 27 by 17 inches, narrow for its size class, and a king is sold too. Options include a Classic rectangle and a Crescent shape, and an Essence Cooling version adds $15 a pillow. The 2 inches the details table gives as thickness matches the gusset, so read it as gusset depth, not loft.
Care
Spot clean only, despite the removable cover
Spot clean only, says the care line. The cover unzips for refilling, but the published instruction does not extend to laundering it, which is why care scores 4. A pillow protector will save you some trouble here.
Value
Thirty-four fifty a pillow, with five years of warranty behind it
A queen Classic pair costs $69, or $34.50 each, against a $25 median for fiber pillows. Essence Cooling queens cost $49.50 each, and the king Crescent $54.50. In return you get a 5-year limited warranty and a 100-day trial, though the trial covers only purchases made direct from Coop.
If adjustability is not the point, Serta's Medium Soft Bed Pillow rates 7.4 at $25 a pillow, well under this one's $34.50. Coop's other pillows are on its brand page.
