Purple Freeform Pillow review

Purple's removable-fill foam pillow wrapped in a GelFlex Grid, for people who want to tune height and firmness and can live with a $194 price that most value comments call too high.

Our verdict

An early read at 297 ratings, three short of our ranking floor, so the 7.0 is provisional. Fit range scores 8 and value 8.6, but keep the comparison in view: the gel grid median is $194, this pillow's own price, and the only other gel grid model costs $211.

Fill and feel

Moon Foam you can remove, wrapped in a GelFlex Grid

Purple fills the pillow with MicroFlex Moon Foam that you add or take out, and wraps it in a 360-degree GelFlex Grid the maker pitches for pressure relief. Optional inner chambers let you put support right under the neck. Packed full, Purple says, it feels soft and fluffy. Pull fill out and it turns denser and flatter.

A throw case comes in the box to hold whatever foam you remove.

Cover

A mineral-infused stretch knit with no care guide

The polyester cover is a stretch knit with minerals woven in, and Purple calls it washable and cooling. Beyond that, the product page gives no care instructions, and care scores 5.

Value

$194 standard, $228 king

Standard measures 26 by 18.5 inches and costs $194. King is 36 by 18.5 inches at $228, also sold one at a time. Purple's GelFlex Grid pillow costs $211 and scores 5.9, and our adjustable pillow roundup has cheaper ways to tune your height.

Returns run 30 nights on direct orders, for a clean, undamaged pillow, with a 1-year limited warranty. More on the maker is on the Purple brand page.
