Purple GridCloud Pillow review

Purple's cheaper gel-grid pillow, a fiber core under a honeycomb GelFlex layer with a stated 7-inch loft, aimed at side sleepers and still short of the ratings we need to rank it.

Our verdict

The GridCloud scores 6.4 out of 10 on 136 ratings, an early read that stays off our ranked list. Complaints score 9.5 and value 9.2, the second only because $149 undercuts the $194 gel-grid median. Buyer satisfaction (5.8), a single size (fit range 4) and thin proof (4) pull the rest down.

Suits

  • Side and combination sleepers who want a tall pillow, per Purple's 7-inch figure
  • Anyone curious about Purple's grid for less than the full grid pillow costs
  • Buyers who want to try the grid against a foam layer and can order from Purple to get the 30 nights

Think twice if

  • Anyone who needs a queen or king size
  • Readers who want a stated care method
  • Shoppers measuring value against fiber pillows, not other grid pillows

Buyer ratings

What 136 buyers say

Buyers give the GridCloud Pillow 4.1 out of 5 from 136 ratings. Adjusted for pool size, the GridCloud Pillow averages 4.24, with 17% of its ratings at one or two stars.

Topics buyers raise most

  • Pillow quality32 mentions: 88% positive, 13% negative
  • Value for money21 mentions: 38% positive, 62% negative
  • Sleep quality12 mentions: 100% positive, 0% negative
  • Softness11 mentions: 100% positive, 0% negative

Owners split more than a 4.1 average implies. Of 136 ratings, 63% are five stars, but 10% are one star, 7% two and 10% three, so over a quarter sit at three stars or below.

Most topics are small and warm: all 11 buyers on softness and all 12 on sleep quality are positive, and pillow quality runs 88% positive over 32 mentions. Price is the exception. Of 21 buyers who discuss value for money, 62% think it falls short, a reminder that $149 is cheap only next to other grid pillows. Six mentions of stability lean negative, too few to read much into.

Fill and feel

A down-alternative core under a honeycomb GelFlex Grid

Purple pairs a plush down-alternative core of silicone-coated fibers with a honeycomb GelFlex Grid layer, which it says holds your head up so it does not sink flat. The maker sells the grid as cooling, drawing heat from the surface, and wraps everything in a stretch cover of 92% nylon and 8% spandex. Purple publishes no firmness word for it.

Materials and proof stop at 4: Purple holds a company-wide CertiPUR-US listing, yet the GridCloud's own pages cite nothing.

Size and loft

One standard size, 23.5 by 15.5 inches, 7 inches tall

The only size is a standard at 23.5 by 15.5 inches, weighing 2.36 kg. Purple calls the 7-inch loft medium-tall and points side and combination sleepers at it. For a stomach sleeper, a pillow that tall pushes your head well above the mattress.

Care

No washing instruction yet

Neither the maker's bullets nor the details table say how to clean the GridCloud, which holds care at 5. With a gel layer inside, you should not guess at a machine cycle. Ask Purple before washing anything but a separate pillowcase.

Value

$149, against $211 for the full grid pillow

At $149, you pay $62 less than for the Purple Pillow with the GelFlex Grid, which scores 5.9 on a ranked pool. Against fiber or foam pillows, though, $149 buys several pillows, which is the gap those 21 value-for-money comments describe.

Bought direct, you get 30 nights to decide, provided the return arrives clean and undamaged, and one year of limited warranty as first owner. Other models sit on the Purple brand page.
