SUPA MODERN review · Shredded memory foam

SUPA MODERN Cooling Shredded Memory Foam Pillow review

A shredded-foam pillow you can thin out or top up at about $19 a pillow in the queen pair, with one catch: a third of buyers who talk about its cooling or its firmness are unhappy.

Our verdict

Ranked first of 53, the SUPA earns its 7.9 through breadth rather than raves. It scores 9 for fit range because you can open the zipper and pull foam out, 9.5 for value and a full 10 for care.

Buyer satisfaction is lower, at 7.2. The 4.3-star average rests on 23,026 ratings pooled from two listings of the same pillow, so it is about as settled as a number gets.

Of the 23,026 ratings, 68% are five stars and 8% are one or two. Cooling comes up 1,409 times and firmness 1,269 times, and both split the same way, 67% positive and 33% negative. That is where the doubt sits, and it fits a pillow whose feel depends on how much fill you leave inside.

Appearance draws 708 mentions and 96% of them are positive, so the pillow looks the part out of the box. Support, raised 400 times, runs 83% positive. Quality is the biggest topic at 2,529 mentions, with 16% of those negative.

Fill and feel

Cross-cut foam, a little microfiber, and a side zipper

SUPA MODERN lists the fill as 85% cross-cut memory foam and 15% soft microfiber, and calls the feel medium. The zipper is the design: take foam out for a low stomach-sleeping height, leave it in for side sleeping. As shipped, the details table gives a thickness of 7 inches. If you would rather start firmer, the "Firm Queen" pair costs $49.99, or $25 a pillow.

Cooling

An ice-silk face against a polyester face

Its cover has two sides. The maker says the cooling side, half cooling fiber and half polyester, lowers the surface temperature by around 4 to 9°F. Treat that as sales copy and weigh it against the 67% positive share among buyers who mention cooling. A separate "Icy" cover option runs about $35 a pillow in the queen pair.

Care

The shell washes, the foam does not

The product page files the pillow as machine washable, yet its own details table says the inner gel memory foam is not washable. Go by the stricter line. Wash the cover and air the fill.

Value

Under the shredded-foam median per pillow

At $37.99 for the queen pair you pay $19 a pillow, under the $27.49 median for shredded memory foam. A king pair costs $69.99. Among same-fill peers, the QUTOOL Firm Shredded Memory Foam Pillow costs $19 and scores 7.8, while the Coop Original Adjustable Pillow asks $89 for a 7.6.

No trial or warranty term is published. The listing states CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX, but the OEKO-TEX certificate is held by a separate factory and the CertiPUR-US directory has no SUPA MODERN entry.
